Daemons

Daemons are a very central part of Pullmetic Lore and understanding them is considered very important. They are a part of one's self that has it's own autonomy and takes a form that represents who the person is. They are shapeshifters in children and adolescents, settling into one form once a child matures and has a concrete personality. Daemons are often of the opposite gender or sex of their person, but what exactly determines this is unknown. Culture, societal status, and similar external factors also have an impact on the form one's daemon takes. 

Everyone has a daemon even if they are not currently aware of it. In our world, daemons do not naturally exist externally with their own body the way they do in some other worlds. Instead, we have to actively work to understand and interact with our daemons. This is not something to undertake lightly as distancing your daemon from yourself cannot be undone. If one chooses to go down this path however, it is deeply rewarding and spectacular.
